The brain rewires fastest during the first 90 days after stroke. Early, intense, repetition-based therapy is the single biggest predictor of functional recovery.

Repetition-based therapy in the first 90 days is the strongest predictor of functional recovery.

Daily structure that works

  • 1-2 sessions of supervised physiotherapy
  • Speech therapy if needed
  • Hand-function tasks (10-15 minutes, 4-5 times daily)
  • Family-led practice between sessions

Common pitfalls

  • Over-protective family members doing tasks for the patient
  • Skipping sessions when energy is low (do shorter, not none)
  • Ignoring shoulder pain — frozen shoulder is preventable
  • Forgetting bowel/bladder retraining
Recovery is a marathon. Set weekly goals, celebrate small wins.
